ICHA2018 Session: New major events & exploitation of longtime series (monitoring & case studies)

A Session on New major events & exploitation of longtime series (monitoring & case studies) is chaired by Jussi MERILUOTO (Abo Akademi University, Finland) and co-chair Catherine QUIBLIER / Maud LEMOINE within ICHA2018  in Nantes (21 to 26 October 2018).

Session description:

This session invites presentations on any major HAB events since the last conference, as well as analysis of long-time series, i.e. multi-annual datasets.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018 !!!

ICHA2018 Session: Risk assessment for algal and cyanobacterial toxins

A Session on Risk assessment for algal and cyanobacterial toxins is chaired by Emanuela TESTAI (Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Italy) and co-chair Nathalie ARNICH within ICHA2018  in Nantes (21 to 26 October 2018).

Session description: Any information, study or survey related to a full risk assessment of human health effects associated with marine or freshwater toxins or on one of the key steps, such as hazard characterization (dose-response relationship), consumption survey, exposure assessment.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018 !!!

ICHA2018 Session : Toxin Analysis – Novel detection methods

A Session on Toxin Analysis – Novel detection methods is chaired by Ana GAGO (Univ. Vigo, Spain) with co-chairs Ronel BIRE / Zouher AMZIL, within ICHA2018  in Nantes (21 to 26 October 2018).

Determination of toxins has to address many challenges related to the diversity of compounds, the complexity of the matrices, the availability of standards and reference materials etc. A wide array of techniques is available among which functional assays, biochemical assays and chemical methods but may not address all the issues related to the analysis of the toxins. New detection methods taking on board the latest technical advances are necessary as they offer novel approaches.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018 !!!

ICHA2018 Session : Taxonomy

A Session on Taxonomy is organized by Nico SALMASO (IASMA-FMACH, Italy),  Mitsunori IWATAKI (Univ. Tokyo, Japan) and  Nicolas CHOMERAT (Ifremer, France), within ICHA2018  in Nantes (21 to 26 October 2018).

The taxonomy session will focus on recent advances in taxonomy and systematics of harmful algae and cyanobacteria. This will include characterization of new taxa, proposal of nomenclatural changes due to reinvestigations using molecular and phenotypic methods, molecular phylogeny, and studies of the genetic diversity of toxic species.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018 !!!

See the list of session topics of ICHA2018.

ICHA2018 Session: Ecology-harmful algae and global change

A Session on  “Ecology – Harmful Algae and Global Change” is organized by Gustaaf HALLEGRAEFF, Myriam BORMANS and Raffaele SIANO, within ICHA2018  in Nantes (21 to 26 October 2018).

Over the last few decades, an increase in frequency and intensity of harmful algal blooms as well as changes in the biogeography and in the temporal dynamics of species and functional groups have been associated to ecosystem variations of both natural and antropogenic origins. This session is focused on the observed and forecasted effects of the climate and of the human driven on the ecology of toxic cyanobacteria and eukaryotic microalgae. We welcome contributions using experimental analyses, in situ observations or model predictions which advance our understanding on the selection of harmful algae in a warmer and changing future. Studies which consider interactions between abiotic and/or biotic drivers on bloom development, composition and toxicity in the context of climate changes are particularly encouraged.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018 !!!

ICHA2018: Sessions announced (Nantes, October 2018)

The 18th edition of the International Conference on Harmful Algae (ICHA2018) will take place on 21-26 October 2018 in Nantes, France. The session topics of ICHA2018 were recently announced; they cover all aspects of marine and freshwater HABs.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018.

ICHA2018 – Abstract submission is open !

The 18th International Conference on Harmful Algae – ICHA2018 will be held on 21-26 October in Nantes, France. The Chair (Philipp Hess – Ifremer) and Scientific Committee of the conference have issued call for abstract submission that is now open.

A Preliminary Agenda of the Conference is also available in ICHA2018 website. The agenda includes keynote, plenary and parallel presentations, poster exhibitions and related activities, and it is complemented by a social program and cultural tours in and around the beautiful city of Nantes.

ICHA2018 is an excellent opportunity for interactions between freshwater and marine-HAB experts from all over the world. We expect that many CYANOCOST members will participate, so we are looking forward to meet again in Nantes!

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2018.
